Our house, our home

Thought you’d like to see a few pictures of our home and compound. The “compound” is basically an enclosed neighborhood. The Chinese love walls and gates and our compound is surrounded by steel fencing on the back, 1o foot high cement walls on the sides and a manned entry gate out front and another guarded gate in the back.

Apartment 3-18 Guangming Apartments Beijing

A bit of green in a very grey city. Heard recently that the city power hoses trees in the spring to attempt to get all the dust (pollution) off.

Our apartment duplex

Our apartment shares one wall with another apartment. Haven’t met these neighbors yet but I know someone plays the piano. Just wait until I get my guitar off the boat shipment.

Playground in the southern end of compound.

We’ve met several families with kids. Mostly from USA but also Japan, Germany and France. Most people work at the embassies.

Not sure about this one…Lost in translation?

My new friend says the summers are very hot so we are looking forward to using the pool.

Our little compound is dwarfed by Guangming Hotel, an apartment and the Four Seasons Hotel.

Thank you for the tour! We’ll see what a Tar Heel says about a “hot summer.” 😉

True but after not living in the south for 20+ years, I bet this summer will feel hot and humid.
